The Bridgerunners
Before we shot The Bridgerunners story, running imagery largely featured singular shiny athletes, shot in colour, depicting visions of the perfect athlete. Demetria wanted to shoot something different that celebrated running communities, running in urban spaces.
The Bridgerunners were the vanguard of a new type of running community. Tim photographed them running across the eponymous bridges that connect downtown Manhattan to Brooklyn, on black and white 35mm film.
In 2008 you didn’t generally shoot commercial projects on 35mm black and white film. The photographs we took presented new ideas on how you could picture runners. I still see the echo of these images across the category.
